Tasting Notes: Epoch, Beckmen, Bogle, Villa Creek and a Cotes du Rhone

Some tasting notes from the past few weeks. Enjoy!

2010 Epoch Estate Wines Zinfandel Paderewski Vineyard ($55)

Popped and poured at restaurant. Exquisite. Rich fruit on the nose. Lush mouthfeel. Big fruit, dark chocolate and pepper on the palate. Smooth finish. Love this (so did our waiter, the bar manager and the chef!) (94 pts)

2010 Beckmen Vineyards Syrah Estate Santa Ynez Valley ($23)

Popped and poured, drank over 2 nights. Rich dark fruit on the nose, with spice notes. Carries over to the palate. Creamy mouthfeel and a nice, smooth finish. Very nice. (91 pts)

2010 Bogle Vineyards Zinfandel Old Vines ($10)

Popped and poured, drank over 3 nights. Opaque garnet color. Cherry and raspberry fruit on the nose. Really fruity on the front of the palate. Thin mid-palate and not much of a finish, but if you are looking for an inexpensive red with good fruit and spice, it isn't bad. (85 pts)

2009 SVP Cotes du Rhone Signargues La Granacha ($11)

Popped and poured, drank over 2 nights. Red fruit and pencil lead on the nose. Cherry fruit on the palate. Thin in terms of mouthfeel and the finish is clipped. Nothing special, but a good QPR for a weeknight bottle. (85 pts)

2010 Villa Creek Avenger ($45)

Popped and poured, drank over 2 nights. Rich red and black fruit on the nose. That follows through to the palate. Mouth-filling and opulent. Really enjoyable. (92 pts)
