Sun and Serenade on Siesta Key

(Southwest Wine Guide)
During our visits to Sarasota, Florida to visit family, we will often seek out Florida wineries to taste wine. And even though we’re Arizona ‘desert dwellers’ we occasionally do miss the sound of the ocean. So, on a recent visit we opted to spend some of our time soaking up some sun on beautiful Siesta Beach.
After a couple of hours on the beach, we decided to take a break and visit Ocean Boulevard in Siesta Key to find a casual beach friendly place where we could have lunch in our bathing suit cover-ups. We parked our rental car and started to walk along the street when we heard live music coming from the outdoor patio of The Hub Baja Grill.
As we walked toward the music, the musician saw us, smiled and said, “Hello! Come on in!”
The Hub is a casual place that serves a wide selection of food including tacos, crab cake sandwiches and salads as well as beer, wine and fabulous margaritas. The décor is beachy and tropical and there is live music every day.
On this particular day we were serenaded by the very talented and charming Andres Colin.
Andres knows how to work the room. His charming smile and witty remarks immediately engage the audience. If you have a special song request, chances are that Andres knows it and will gladly play it for you. A native of Mexico, Andres has been playing Spanish guitar since the age of twelve. He has had the opportunity to perform throughout Mexico, Cuba and the United States. In one set, Andres can play a variety of music from Latin American to Country Western. He sings in five different languages including Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian and English. He cleverly mixes other instruments during his performance in addition to the Spanish guitar. Andres has also written several songs and has produced a beautiful album entitled, Esta Vida.
In addition to The Hub, Andres has performed at some of Sarasota’s finest establishments including The Ritz Carleton, Ceviche Sarasota and Sarasota Vineyard.
On a break, Andres took some time to sit at our table and chat for awhile. His passion for his music is genuine and his comfortable demeanor and sense of humor is disarming. We spent longer than we expected at The Hub, opting to forego more beach time, just because we were enjoying the music so much!
The afternoon floated by as we felt the sun shining on our faces while being serenaded by an artist that Sarasota, Florida (and possibly the world!) will be hearing more about soon!
