Cooking With Wine Recipes

Cooking With Wine | Food and Wine Recipes

The goal of these cooking with wine recipes are to make it easy, have fun, and make a great impression on your dinner guests with good food and wine. When we entertain, we like to set the mood with music and fresh flowers. Your guests’ first impressions are visual so we suggest using colorful serving dishes and plates to attract attention and to whet their appetites.

Food and wine recipes are meant to be enjoyed, since one enhances the other. The basic idea is the mixing of two flavors to create a third. The only wrong choice of food and wine is .....Serving no wine at all!

Recipes Using Wine are Easy to Make and are the Start to a Great Party or Get-together.

"Wine makes every meal an occasion, every table more elegant, every day more civilized." - Andre Simon

We Love Cooking With Wine

Quick Easy Appetizers

Easy to make appetizers are the start to a great party or get-together.

These quick easy appetizers are sure to make a great impression on your guests. They’re easy to make ahead of time. When we entertain, we like to set the mood with fresh flowers and music and your best wine. Your guests’ first impressions are visual so we suggest using colorful serving dishes and plates to attract attention and whet the appetite for these fast and easy appetizers!

Some Of Our Favorite Easy Appetizers

Marinated Mushrooms
We serve marinated mushrooms during the holidays. It also makes a nice hostess gift. Put the mushrooms in an attractive jar or other glass container and top with a ribbon. This recipe can be made two days in advance and kept in the refrigerator.

Linguica Rounds
A family favorite appetizer from Carol’s Aunt Phyllis that can be made up to two days in advance.

Corn Salsa
Cinco de Mayo anyone? This party-pleaser is easy and delicious! Serve the salsa in a large margarita glass garnished with a jalapeno pepper.

Marinated Tomatoes
Paul makes these when we entertain al fresco. We go to the local farmers market and buy fresh locally-grown tomatoes. They are a refreshing start to a barbeque dinner and a nice alternative to a salad. We like to garnish the tomatoes with Nasturtiums or fresh basil.

Chicken Wings Polynesian Style
We love these chicken wings because they’re different than the run-of-the-mill barbeque variety. You can create an entire party theme around these wings! Think grass skirts, Tiki torches and a pig roast!

Fresh Rosemary Walnuts
Delicious as an appetizer, these also taste great sprinkled on top of salad.

Bowl Of Soup

Easy Soup Recipes

Soup is comfort food. It warms your body as well as your soul.

On chilly winter afternoons, we always had pots of our easy soup recipes on the stove at our Country Store. The rich aroma of simmering herbs and spices in a hearty broth created an inviting ambience that beckoned people to stop and enjoy a cup or a bowl along with a chunk of fresh crusty bread.

Our soups can be enjoyed anytime and are better than something from a can. Making soup from scratch is easy and economical as well as healthy. Leftover soup can be easily frozen for a quick lunch or snack.

Some Of Our Favorite Easy Soups

Herbal Chicken This chicken soup is rich, hearty and flavorful thanks to the variety of herbal ingredients. The light cream adds texture and thickness. It is best served as a main course. Serve the soup in deep bowls and garnish each with a sprig of rosemary to add interest. A crusty French baguette with will pair well with this easy soup.

Clear Mushroom We have been serving this appetizer soup to dinner guests for decades and no one ever gets tired of it! A dry Chardonnay works well in this soup and the mushrooms take on the flavor of the wine and the shallots to create a delicious beginning to a dinner party! Garnish with croutons and fresh chopped parsley. To create an interesting effect, we serve this easy soup in a variety of different antique shallow soup bowls.

Homemade Vegetable Soup The best thing about this soup is that it is chock full of so many vegetables! If you don’t have all of the vegetables listed here, substitute with other similar ones on hand. If you grow a vegetable garden or have access to a farmer’s market, this recipe will make good use of local fresh produce.

Each month Paul (the “Cook” in the Wilcox household) will utilize his culinary skills to test out a recipe from one of the new cookbooks. Carol will write the review.

Because both food and wine are our passions, we will also include a Southwest Wine pairing and other accompaniments such as music, side dishes, breads, desserts and other entertaining tips.

Our recipe reviews will appear on CooksandBooksandRecipes.com as well as right here on our site.
