BBQ Ribs Recipe

Best BBQ Sauce Recipes and
Wines for the Barbeque

BBQ Ribs Wines for the barbeque often brings to mind box wine, soda or beer. But a good wine served with food like a BBQ ribs recipe may be just the right balance for favorite grilled food. Because the weather is mild in many parts of the Southwest, barbeques are common occasions and some folks even have built outdoor kitchens, preferring to grill meats, vegetables and seafood on a charcoal or gas grill rather in a conventional oven or stovetop.

Regardless of which wines are chosen, the important thing to remember is that the wines should complement the succulence of the food that is slow cooking on the grill. Lower body and alcohol content wines are both refreshing and palatable for grilled and barbeque foods, especially during warmer months.

For grilled vegetables like Portobello mushrooms, zucchini or eggplant and chicken or shrimp, a Sauvignon Blanc (also known as Fumè Blanc), Sancerre or Pinot Grigio are three good suggestions. A light sparkling wine would be refreshing as well. For something different, try Rosè which is another nice warm weather wine. Served chilled, a dry Rosè combines the refreshing taste of a white wine while imparting the flavors of the fruits of red wine. Long out of favor because of its association with inexpensive wines, Rosè wine is making a comeback and is being made by many wineries in the Southwest. It definitely deserves a place on the wine list for barbeques!

For grilled meats like steak, try a full-flavored red wine such as Bordeaux or Zinfandel. For hamburgers try a red wine such as Beaujolais, Pinot Noir or Merlot. For barbeque sauces that are tomato based, Chianti or Barbera would work well.

The BBQ Ribs Recipe below would pair well with a hearty Pinot Noir wine from Arizona wineries, Temecula wineries or Texas wineries.

One Of Our Best BBQ Sauce Recipes

Serves: 8-10

INGREDIENTS:

  • 5 pounds pork spareribs, trimmed and cut into serving sized pieces
  • ½ cup of butter
  • Grille Sauce
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ½ cup red wine vinegar
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup red wine
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup hickory smoke flavored barbeque sauce
  • Juice of one lemon
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • Olive oil to brush the grill
  • DIRECTIONS:

Place ribs in a large skillet or a roasting pan. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer on stovetop for one hour or until the meat is tender but not falling off the bone. Remove skillet from heat and drain.

Place the boiled ribs in a large roasting pan and cover with the barbeque sauce. Cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours.

Melt the butter in a saucepan. Sautè the onion and garlic until tender and then remove from stovetop. In a food processor or blender, combine the vinegar, wine and water, ketchup, barbeque sauce, liquid smoke and lemon juice until well blended. Pour in the butter, onion and garlic mixture and puree for one minute. Pour the mixture into a saucepan and season with the salt and pepper.

Bring the mixture to a boil and immediately remove from heat.

    Preheat the grill to medium-high.

Brush the grill grates with the olive oil. Place ribs on the grill and baste with the sauce frequently. Turn the meat frequently for about 15 to 20 minutes or until the ribs are well browned. Cover the ribs with foil and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
