What Possessed Us To Open Wine?

I signed us up to participate in a blind Pinot Grigio taste test put on by the guys over at winetwits.com!

For a minimal cost, 2 brown bagged sheathed bottles of wine magically appeared on my doorstep. Well, kind of. It was really FedEx, but the fun remains. I roped my husband and daughter into doing the taste with me and tweeting about it. At 6pm MT armed with our open and chilled bottles marked simply with a 1 and a 2, we set off for fun.

What Did The Label Want Us To Know?

The Barone Fini bottle informs us that it is crisp and dry, fresh and fruity with a flowery bouquet. Goes good with light dishes. (we also learned that this is the 50th generation of his family making wine in Northern Italy and that they made wine for the Medicis).

The Santa Margherita describes itself also as crisp. It adds light and refreshing to its adjectives. Goes well with lighter savory dishes. From reading the labels, you would think that they taste pretty similar, but no way!

What’s So Great About It?

The number 1 bottle, later revealed to be the Santa Margherita, was fruity and light. As a dry red drinker, it tasted pretty sweet, but was a fun change for me. David thought it was great for summer and was very light and smooth at the end.

The number 2 bottle, The Barone Fini Pinot Grigio was definitely dryer, so I liked it right away. David thought it was more sophisticated and tasted more expensive. He thought it would go great with a meal. We both voted for The Barone Fini wine and our daughter voted for the Santa Margherita. Then the unmasking took place!

Fantasy This Wine Engendered:

I am an adopted person(true). I am Italian and my roots are from Northern Italy(true). I am related to the Barone Fini Family, in fact I am the sole heir. On some bizarre television reality show, we are reunited with hugs and general wine drinking. Wine starts showing up at my door spontaneously and is delivered by a very nice FedEx guy!!!

Conversation This Wine Engendered:

Twitter has just about taken over our family.

Tasting wine and seeing pics of everyone setting up to taste is super fun.

The Irish Whiskey infused cheddar tasted better at the store than at this tasting.
